For anyone who is interested you can visit a virtual 3D version of IAS by visiting this site: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/cldetails?mid=77f8851dd56e6f594e9e83dc441c1732&ct=mdcc
In the wake of my recent retirement I discovered Google's 3D drawing application - Sketchup. Having never used a CAD-type drawing before, I became facinated with what could be done. I began to draw a couple of IAS facilites such as the Pound and Chow Hall. I couldn't stop with that. Now I have recreated some 12 different structures on base with more likely to come. They were all drawn in their 1965 configuration.
You can view these 3D models by downloading a free viewer from Google at: http://sketchup.google.com/download/gsuviewer.html or the free Sketchup program itself at the same url.
I have submitted these models to Google for consideration of inclusion in Google Earth. I am awaiting their answer. However, if you wish to view these models in the Google Earth setting you can place each one in your copy of Google Earth. It is quite a sensation to virtually cruise the old base.
I have attached a screen shot view of the Airmen's Club patio view depicting the nostalgic view of the Ferry Boat Iraklion passing near Dragon Island and Olympic airlines landing at Iraklion at dusk.

Another Fallen Eagle Sherman "Woody" Tyree Died April 17, 2008
getting rejections from Woody's email, I reached out Tom Spears tried to help from the Philippines and Mike Parker eventually made contact with Woody's wife. She told him that Woody had died of complications from pneumonia (Mike gave the year as 2007 but It must have been last year 2008).
From an IAS perspective Woody is easy to eulogize. I am not sure when he first arrived there, probably 1962. He touched and made friends with most of 203's who passed through IAS. He became the stations chief/linguist analyst before he left. We both got discharged at IAS and I spent some wonderful times with him in Saint Nicholas. No so long ago he went to a reunion in Nashville with a group of 203's that were not even his class (they adopted him as we did). He was always a true gentleman and always willing to help.
It would be nice if you could add your good thoughts and experiences with him to this message to honor him. He may have been the most significant individual to serve at IAS. He certainly was in my era.
I was just informed about the existence of this web site for alumni of the Iraklion, Crete Air Station. This is a great idea someone had and I hope to see it grow. Happy New Year to all. David McSpadden former commander of the 6931st Hq Section (78-80) [Submitted by Captain Mack]

BIG WALK! '84 - 88 SP'S [Submitted by Curtis Walker]
The reunion has been moved to April 17, 2010, originally set for July 19, 2009.
I have actually been wanting to move this event, due to the lack of responses and/or interest, the caterers removing my name from the reservation list {due to no deposit} and the numerous newcomers that have joined us.
Also, I'm still searching for others and would like for them {our newcomers, along with all others} to be able to plan and save for this event. It would be awesome to have EVERYONE there!
I apologize for any inconvenience, but seeing, now that, I have more time to plan, I could use a lot of help! AND together, we can make this a reunion, no one will forget!
Should you have any questions, comments and/or concerns, please let me know.
